Premiere: May 10, 2022 - Granoff Center - Providence, RI
Million Adversarial Faces draws resonances between different expressions of the divine that have emerged in human culture. The work uses Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to create artificially rendered faces of God. Sonically, the striking of bells has been sampled and distorted in manifold ways to create a soundscape that is intentionally overwhelming and disorienting. The narrative of the piece is centered around a gesture of ever-heightening tension, spiraling upwards, finding plateau after plateau, searching for a crest. Eventually the work reaches its zenith, but it must in turn try to reconstitute itself.
