Being a composer and a performer can make balance difficult - I’ve found that necessity has forced me to shift between these roles at different moments in my life, finding meaning and purpose in different ways of musicmaking. playing again is a piece that seeks to tap into the joy intrinsic to returning to one’s instrument, in my case the violin, like meeting a friend again after a long absence. playing again is commissioned by ARCO Collaborative, and premiered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on November 16, 2024, as part of the Sounds of US Festival.
